Crazy, Party of 5 Homeward Bound

Our flight from Dayton didn’t leave till 4pm.  We decided to make sure we were there early just in case we ran into any difficulty.  We might have over shot a bit since we sat there for two and a half hours before the flight.  I’d rather sit and relax then show up running for the gate.   At the security check point they had us take everything off Magpie (Including collar) and have her walk through the detector alone.  She did great and it wasn’t an issue at all.  It was the calmest part of our day.

Magpie, Deeds and Daddy waiting for the first flight.

Gwen going "ni-night" with her legs straight up in the air, such a silly girl.

Magpie being such a good girl waiting to get on the plane.

Once we got on the aircraft it was a bit crazy.  They let us board early then sat and fussed at us to hurry up.  Uh, I’m sorry that all five of us (one with special needs who was stimming like crazy) and a service dog aren’t able to walk onto the plane and get seated in 20 seconds.  As it was half the stuff we needed to keep the kids occupied ended up stuck in overhead bins..  We got it all worked out but our flight attendant must have been having a bad day and thought we were there to make it worse.  I don’t think she smiled once the entire flight.  I was feeling pretty uncomfortable with her and more than happy when we were able to get off the plane.

Magpie did fantastic.  A lot of people have asked me where she goes on the plane.  She just lies on the floor in front of our feet.  Well quite literally on my feet.  She stayed laying down the entire flight even with Deeds occasionally kicking her.  It wasn’t too bad, and I am so happy she isn’t too big.

Gwen was able to have her own seat on the first flight.

Thank heavens for Wall-e on the iPad.

The second flight was fantastic and so was the flight staff.  The airport was crazy since there was a gate change that caused some chaos.  Thanks heavens Deeds was tethered to Magpie or we never would have made it to the correct gate all together.  We did get some funny looks running through the mall with a service dog literally strapped to a screaming boy.  One woman even laughed and told us she never thought of having her dog walk her kid before.  I’m sure this is just the beginning of what we will hear.  Fact of the matter is this.  I knew Deeds was safe.  I knew WHERE Deeds was during our ENTIRE time at the airports.  It’s a peace of mind for me that I can’t even describe to you.  During take off and landing he would even pet Magpie and tell her not to worry that it was so loud.  I love that he is starting to pet and interact with her without our promptings. homeward bound

When we got home we didn’t socialize Daisy and Magpie very well before just kind of throwing them together at our house.  It was late and since we were all still running 2 hours ahead of local time the kids were SO TIRED.  We let them, the dogs, play for a while but now that daisy realizes Magpie is sticking around she is a bit wary about the entire situation.  Poor Magpie just wants to play and Daisy is not in the mood quite yet.  I’m sure it’ll all settle down in a couple of days since I have never known Daisy not to get along with another dog.  I think it’s just that we were gone for so long and she isn’t so sure about the huge black dog we brought back with us.  She seems so small now after spending so much time with so many big dogs.

Gwen seems to be coming down with the cold now that we’ve been passing around, and since Deeds is still getting over it I’m sure tomorrow will be a quiet day at home.  Time to get back into the swing of things.  Like all the laundry and 2 weeks worth of homework for me that didn’t get done while we were gone.

I will still be blogging about our Deeds and Magpie adventures so stay tuned.
