Alexis this bill actually never made it. They are trying out a waver program but I don’t know a lot about it since it only goes to the age of 5 I believe and our son is about to turn 5 so it wouldn’t benefit us. The bill would have helped in your situation.

My son has PDD NOS and my insurance and my husbands insurance have caps on speech therapy of $1500 a year…thats only about 17-18 sessions/year and not enough for a child with mixed language disorder. Would the bill change the caps? My husbands insurance will not pay once he turns 7 so we are SOL.

Lets pass this bill! I have two daughters with High Functioning Autism. It seems like no one understands them or can help. We have tried Valley Mental Health and counselors with our church, only to be told they can’t really help us. The girls are in main stream schools, and the administrators always want me to solve the problems that happen at school. (Hello, what are the schools’ staff being paid for if I have to do their jobs? I’m not there when it happens.) There are many families a lot worse off then we are. I feel fortunate my girls are so high functioning.

This is a great post-thank you! I’ve honestly not read a better explanation of why this is so important to everyone, not just families personally affected by autism. Thanks for sharing this and helping educate everyone on this very important bill!

All in favor of this. We have two sons on the autistic spectrum and have been through the gambit just to find someone who actually understands what the child actually goes through, how we as parents can help them, and how we can make sense of the behaviors we experience but cannot explain accept through patience, prayer, and love.
